Many people don't realize the frequent use of codes in our everyday society. From bar codes to area codes, we are surrounded by them. They have shaped wars and even today, the deciphering of codes is a very important aspect of the military. Once cracked, the military can take these codes and unlock the secrets of other countries, possibly even save lives. By knowing what the other countries are up to, troop placement becomes an easier task. People can devote their whole lives to cracking codes, and many people have jobs simply devoted to the deciphering of codes. Codes are used in computers as well. They can either disguise secretive information the computer user doesn't want people to find, or even make it difficult for viruses to infect your computer. From the first known code, the scytale used in ancient Mesopotamia, to the complicated computer code used today, codes have become a major aspect in our lives.
