The secrets of our past: Where are we from?
Many of us only know as much as we came from Russia, Poland, Ireland, but what about before then. What about before those countries ever existed and we were nomads transitioning into the agricultural revolution? It is a struggle to easily learn about our origin especially for those who have been adopted or lost connection or contact with those form our past. Though a new gene therapy technique may just be the answer to all of our questions. With a new understanding of how to manipulate our genes, there is a new way to find out where exactly your family originated. This new science brake through is extremely accurate as it takes a sample of our DNA from your Mitochondrial DNA (for females) or from your Y chromosome (for males).The DNA is only taken from these two chromosomes out of all of your 23 chromosomes because your sex chromosomes are directly given to you by your parents. These two sex chromosomes do not go through a process of recombination, also referred to as the shuffling of genes. Your sex chromosomes give a direct line of you paternal and maternal linage. This test neglects other lines of linage from other ancestors as it only maps out your direct parental lineage. This means that you most likely have many other ancestors from differing areas or origins though, your direct parental linage is most accurate as it is directly form your sex chromosomes which have not been altered in any way. When this test is preformed, the participate receives a Genealogy tests that needs some interpretation, but is very straightforward. (Experts can easily help in interpretation). When this test is completed, you will receive a country or area in which your paternal and maternal heritage originated. If your interested in where you came form, there are now new and easy ways to find out where exactly your from, you can do a simple test where either you swap your check, take a little blood or a hair follicle to find out where your form. Through these different methods, a doctor is able to obtain your DNA. In order for scientists to track the origins of different groups of people, they look at different sequences. The sequences change over time and the frequencies of those changes can indicate how groups of people moved around and evolved over time.
